Obituary for MARTIN

Athena A. Martin, age 86 of Albuquerque, NM, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2008, at a local hospital. She was born on October 8, 1922 in San Antonio, TX to Harry and Ruth Pelay. She married Ridgley Robert Martin on September 9, 1948 in Portland, OR. He preceded her in death July 17, 1979. Mrs. Martin was a Respiratory Therapist for over 20 years for Lovelace Medical Center, retiring in 1986; and a longtime member of the Sweet Adelines Chorus and Quartets. She enjoyed cooking and baking. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Surviving are her children, Pamela R. Martin and her husband Donald W. Johns, MD, of Las Vegas, NV, R. Robert Martin, and Beverly A. Vaughn and her husband Roger, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Athena, Allegra, Lauren, Holly and Dane; her special companion pet, "Harry"; sister, Kathryn Weisner of Portland, OR; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Chris Curtis and Louise Pelay. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, November 15, 2008, at 3:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM.
