Obituary for SPEER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday November 09, 2008

Samantha "Samy" Ann Speer, age 9, went to be with Jesus, whom she loved so much, on November 5, 2008 after a brave three year struggle with leukemia. She took with her a profound love of God, music, art and cooking. An incredible soul, Samy taught us all new levels of love for each other and for God. She helped us to appreciate the joy and beauty in each and every day through things both big and small. She leaves behind a loving family that includes her father, Neal Everett Speer; her mother, Ann Coleman Speer; her best friend and brother, seven year-old Coleman Everett Speer; and her dog, Spike. Samy's extended Albuquerque family includes her uncle Stephen Coleman, her aunt Erica Coleman, and cousins Allarie and Malachi Coleman. Grandparents include Robert and Doris Speer and her "Grandma Moon" Coleman all of upstate New York. She will be missed by her numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins spread throughout the country. Blessed with a great smile and wonderful attitude, Samy became a friend and family to everyone she met especially those at Hope Christian School. Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the many compassionate health care providers at UNMH and Presbyterian Hospital. A special "I love you" to Dr. Michael Graham and his wonderful team at the University Medical Center Arizona. We will always love and miss you and are consoled knowing that you are happy with God, comfortable, and probably helping to paint the beauty we find all around us. Samy would like to thank her Daddy, Mom and Cole for "helping me get through this." We would like to return that thanks. Our sincere gratitude and thanks for the multitude of kindness and support our family has received. A Rosary Wake Service will be recited on Sunday, November 9, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. at French Mortuary - Lomas Chapel, 10500 Lomas NE. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 10, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. at the Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School NE.
