Amos E. (Tommy) Thomas, (Uncle Tommy), age 97, longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 in his home surrounded by family and his precious caregivers - Sara, Kim, Lolita and Dolores. He was born on September 1, 1911 in Norwood, MO to Joshua and Mary Belle Thomas. Tommy and his family settled in Hydro, OK where he grew up and married his high school sweetheart Mura in 1937. They moved to Albuquerque in 1939 for Tommy to take the sales manager position for Joe Heaston Motor Co. Tommy took a leave of absence in 1942 to serve his country in World War II. After returning to Albuquerque, he acquired half interest in Heaston-Thomas Motor Co. He later owned and operated Southwest Insurance Co. Tommy also ranched and farmed in Colorado for 45 years where he so proudly raised the best "PINTO BEANS" in the west and enjoyed distributing them all over Albuquerque during the Christmas holidays. He had been a long time board member of "Up With People", active in United Way for many years, the Optimists Club, a member of the Albuquerque Country Club, where he was an avid golfer and card player. Tommy was active in the Masonic Lodge, York Rite and Ballud Abyad Shrine, Royal Order of Jesters. He loved to fly fish and hunt in Colorado with his family and dear friends. For the past 12 years, Tommy had been devoted to his latest business venture "Alternative Link". He was preceded in death by his wife, Mura; mother and father; brothers, Everett, Cody, and Sid; half brother, Hank; sister, Maggie and Oma; half sister, Ola. Tommy is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Bill and Cindy Thomas of Albuquerque. He was very proud of being Godfather to Margaret Hampton of Denver, CO, and enjoyed being great-great-great Uncle Tommy to Makayla. Mr. Tommy Thomas lived every single day to the fullest and did his best to make a special memory for someone every day as well. He will be missed by many, and always remembered for his love and generosity to so many people. A full life, this 97 year old "Wonder" lived. We love you, Uncle Tommy.
