Obituary for GUTH

Barbara Guth, 68, a resident of Albuquerque since 1962, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2008 after a long illness. Born in Kansas City, MO, she grew up in Iola, KS, and after high school attended Trinity Lutheran School of Nursing in Kansas City, earning an RN diploma and working as a nurse. In 1961 Barbara and John Guth were married, subsequently moving to Albuquerque and starting a family. In 1976 she began attending UNM, earning a BA and a MA in English. She joined the staff of UNM Press, working for sixteen years as secretary, editor and managing editor before retiring in 2000. She was active in the Master Gardener's organization and enjoyed tutoring reading at Osuna School. Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Dr. G.B. Pees. She is survived by her mother, Ruth Pees of Lawrence, KS; her mother-in-law, Virginia Guth of Albuquerque; her husband and best friend, John Guth of the family home; son, Jason Guth of Tempe, AZ; daughter, Sarah Klenner and husband Jeff of Harrison Township, MI; six beloved grandchildren, Peter and Jill Guth of Tempe, AZ; Josie Kemp of Reno, NV, and Amy Kemp, Darby and Brad Klenner of Harrison Township, MI; brother, Gerald Pees and wife Jeanne of Lawrence, KS; and sister, Chrystine Churas and husband John of Mebane, NC. Prior to cremation, family members held private celebrations, October 26 and 27, 2008 at French Mortuary, Wyoming Chapel. Barbara was blessed to have celebrated the joys of life with family members prior to death. She is especially grateful for her faithful friends in New Mexico and around the U.S, and also to the doctors and medical staff who have taken care of her chronic health problems, some for over 20 years.
