Obituary for EVANS

Ann E. Evans passed away in Albuquerque, NM on Saturday evening, October 4, 2008 following a long illness. She was born to William L. Jackson and Fayna Husley in Tulsa, OK on January 29, 1931. She was 77. Mrs. Evans moved to Albuquerque in 1932 from Tulsa, OK. She was a graduate of Albuquerque High School, class of 1947. She attended the University of New Mexico were she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis in physical education. While attending UNM, she was a cheerleader (1949 / 1950), Homecoming Queen (1950), and a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Following Graduation, she taught school for three years. She was married to her husband of 54 years, Alvin L. Evans on April 10, 1954. Ms. Evans was an employee for "Charlie's Sporting Goods" for 19 years. She served on the Advisory Council of Therapeutic Recreation for thirty years. She was active with the Special Olympics, Campfire Girl's (Leader for six years), and with the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Alumni Advisory Board. She was a member of Albuquerque Ski Club. She loved bowling and did so for 40 years, played softball until the age of 62; and enjoyed golf. Ann treasured her time fishing at El Vado Ranch on the Chama River. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be missed by her family and friends she leaves behind. She is survived by her husband of Alvin L. Evans of Albuquerque, son; John L. Evans and his wife Marene of Albuquerque, NM, daughters; Marianne E. Evans of Albuquerque, Patricia Evans of Albuquerque, two special girls; Karen Siko, and Loretta Micek, both of Albuquerque, one grandson; Tommy Evans of Albuquerque, and one granddaughter; Carolyn "Keri" Evans Steplowski and her husband Wayne of Albuquerque, sister-in-law; Jackie Jackson, many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews survive as well. Her parents William L. Jackson and Fayna Hulsey Jackson; and her brother William L. Jackson precede her in death. Funeral Memorial Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Saint Paul's United Methodist Church (9500 Constitution Avenue NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112) with Reverend Judy Maynard and Pastor Emeritus Terry Anderson officiating. Cremation has taken place. Aspen Funeral Alternatives is in charge of arrangements.
