Obituary for LUNA

Procopio Erculano "Lano" Luna, age 76, a life-long resident of Belen, NM, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at home with his loving family by his side. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. After his father, Procopio passed away when he was still a teen, Lano went to work as a machinist for the Santa Fe Railroad. He continued to work there for 43 years of outstanding service until his retirement. Lano and his wife, Mary Jane cared and provided for his mother, Mercedes and his sisters, Adela and Mary. Lano still lived in the home in which he and his sisters grew up. He was well known as a mechanic and in the late 1970's he and his sons built a garage behind his home where he continued to work on cars for many years. Lano was also known for his matanza's, a tradition his sons and grandsons continue to carry on as a tribute to him. Lano was preceded in death by his parents, Procopio and Mercedes Luna; his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Mary Jane Luna; son, Arnold Luna; two sisters, Mary Baca and Adela Padilla; two sisters-in-law, Rosie Baca and husband, David and Sally Datallo; and two brothers-in-law, Leo and Tony Sanchez. The greatest joys of his life were his grandchildren, Lourdes Luna, Toby Baca and wife, Lisa, Christina Baca, Lucas Luna and wife, Candace, Naomi Luna and husband, Antonio, Kimberlee Luna, Melissa Luna, Amy Luna, Bridget Luna and Candace Luna; and his great-grandchildren. Lano is survived by his three loving sons, Leo Luna and wife, Debbie, Martin Luna and his dogs, Flowers and Fry and Dennis Luna and wife, Karen; three brothers-in-law, Tony Padilla, Alex Sanchez and wife, Daisy, Luciano "L.A." Sanchez and wife, Pauline and two sisters-in-law, Kandy Cordova and husband, Ismael and Lucy Padilla. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a viewing on Tuesday, September 29, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30, at 10:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Naomi, Candace, Candace, Lourdes, Christina, Kimberlee, Melissa and Amy. Honorary Pallbearers will be Salo Maestas, Patrick Castillo and Gilly Garcia.
