Obituary for MCGOUGH

Romaine Elizabeth Sinclair McGough, born to Harry and Alice Sinclair on September 2, 1920 in Baltimore, MD passed into the arms of God on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 in the family home surrounded by loved ones. Romaine was the beloved wife of Retired Major General Edward A. McGough III for 65 years. She was the matriarch of the family, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Romaine was preceded in death by her parents; and grandson, Lindsey Green. She is survived by her husband Ed; four daughters, Sara Lendzion and husband Dennis, Ann McGough, Nancy McGough and husband Sean Green, all of Albuquerque and Gail McGough-Maduena and husband James Maduena of Placitas, NM; granddaughters, Pamela Sever, Alexandra Dyer and husband Brandon, Brooke Green, Mara McGough-Maduena, and Alison McGough-Maduena; grandsons, Joel Green and James McGough-Maduena; and one great-granddaughter, Alynna Dyer. Romaine and Ed were a military family residing in many places in the U.S. and abroad, retiring in Placitas, NM in 1975. Romaine cared deeply for the environment, especially wildlife conservation. She loved music, sang and played the piano throughout her life, in many churches and military chapels around the world. Romaine actively supported all aspects of military family life and Ed's career. She was a wonderful hostess who entertained Kings and Queens, Congressmen, and other dignitaries. Romaine worked for the American Red Cross and was a senior advisor for the American Girl Scout program in Europe. After retiring to Placitas, she was an active participant in the Placitas Jardineros, Placitas Horse Club, and the Las Placitas Presbyterian Church. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Victoria Villarose for her love and care of Romaine in her final months. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Sunday, September 21, 2008, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 p.m. Services will be held at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, Monday, September 22, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m., followed by a reception.
