Obituary for BARELA

Ellen Garlene Baca, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the age of 65. She was born November 16, 1942 to the late William H. Myers and Cleo Katherine Rosser. A life-long resident of Belen, NM, Garlene attended schools in Belen, graduating in 1961, while working alongside her parents in their family business, Society Cleaners. She attended and graduated from UNM, obtaining both a Bachelors and Masters Degree. Garlene worked for Belen Schools as a Language Arts Teacher and Guidance Counselor, retiring after 26 years of outstanding service. Garlene and her husband, Indio, enjoyed their travels to Europe, Canada and Alaska. She had a smile and cheerful greeting for everyone she met, and will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched. Her family wrote "if love could have saved you, you would have lived forever." Garlene is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Sevedeo Barela; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Sari and Al Sanchez, Richard and Esther Barela, Milton and Annabelle Barela, Stella and Felix Chavez, Charlie Barela and Josie Corrales and by her special and devoted friend, Tim Ott. She is further survived by her special cousin/sister, Mary Alice Acri; cousin, Darlene Navarro; special niece, Sidney Urbina and her many friends. Garlene had a special way of showing her care and love for the many nieces and nephews who she leaves behind. Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel, on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. followed by the recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. A final visitation will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
