Obituary for LONG

Lois Grey Long, age 75, died at her home in Albuquerque, NM August 26, 2008. She was born Lois Edna Grey, the daughter of Victor Frank Grey and Ruth French Grey in Alleghany, NY. She graduated from Hico High School in Hico, TX in 1950. She attended Texas Women's University in Denton, TX and later received a Master's Degree in Nursing from the University of Arizona. She taught nursing at UT San Antonio and The University of New Mexico. Her specialty was geriatric nursing in which she worked and coauthored a book, "Psycho-Social Assessment" with Patricia Grant Higgins and Debra Brady. She remained interested in issues regarding aging for all of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband William Averitt; and her second husband Phillip Long. She is survived by two children; five grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers; as well as many good friends who shared her interests in the arts, books, world issues, and especially, politics. A Service of Remembrance was held at the Unitarian Universalist Church at Carlisle on September 4, 2008. The family asks that gifts be directed to the American Heart Association or The Alzheimer's Association.
