Obituary for HOWSER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday August 24, 2008

Edith Marie Howser died peacefully on Friday, August 15, 2008 at the Anna Kaseman Hospice Unit in Albuquerque, NM. She was born in Hancock, MI on November 26, 1909, the oldest child of Agnes and Arvid Lindstrom, who emigrated to the U.S. from Sweden. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Clarence, Herbert and Robert. Edith is survived by her daughter, Patricia; son-in-law, Jack; grandchildren, Joanne Leonard and Steven Ray; and great-grandchildren, David Ray and Francesca Ray. Edith led a challenging, interesting and joyous life, living and working in Michigan, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, New Mexico and Virginia. She retired from the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington D.C. before moving back to Albuquerque to be near her family. She was very loved, and will always be remembered as a person of beauty and integrity. Her exceptional attitude and emotional strength were inspirational to everyone who knew her. Although Edith outlived her husbands, Clifton Cole, Joseph Bobby, Robert Howser and many dear friends, she appreciated the close connections she kept with her sister-in-law, Grace Lindstrom of Montreal, Canada; nieces, Jeannie Ann Slack of Kanata, Ontario, and Kathy Lindstrom-Milne of St. Lazare, Quebec; as well as her cousin, Ethyl Myers of Port Charlotte, Florida. The family wants to thank Jennie and David Casados, who provided many years of kind help and concern for Edith, as well as Sue Cheshire and the staff at Hilldale Residential Care Home, 14528 Hilldale Rd. NE, Albuquerque, whose exceptional love and care was the best anyone in their life's later years could hope for. There will be a family memorial service for Edith at the Rose Garden, Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE in September. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to The Navigators, re: Robert Mahon, P.O. Box 6000, Colorado Springs, CO 80934 or Campus Crusade for Christ International, re: Justin Beck, P.O. Box 628222, Orlando, FL 32862-8222.
