Obituary for SMITH

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday August 19, 2008

Jana Foster Smith was born October 23, 1942 in Taylor, TX, and passed away on August 16, 2008. She was raised in Taylor along with her identical twin sister, Lana Foster Maxey, and older sister Janice Edelle (Jandelle) Foster. Jana never tired of telling about the antics she and Lana got into. The sisters attended Southwest State Teachers College in San Marcos, Texas, and during that time, were proud mermaids at the underwater show at Aquarena Springs. After graduation, the twins taught school in San Antonio, TX. They then moved to Houston, TX, and continued teaching. Marriage and kids finally took them to different states and even continents when Jana moved to England, but they remained forever close. Jana lived in Albuquerque for the past 24 years. She retired in 2004 from CNM (TVI) after working there for 23 years. More than anything, Jana loved international travel and was always planning her next trip. Her last trip was in 2006 when she journeyed back to South Africa with sister Jandelle and grandson Cody. Her sister, Lana Foster Maxey, and her daughter; Heather Eaton Hathaway, precede her in death. She is survived by her husband, Robert (Bob) Smith; sister, Jandelle Foster; son, Parker Eaton and his wife Tammy; step-sons Andrew Smith and wife June, and David Smith; step-daughter Debra Halberg and husband Brad. Nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter also survive her. A Memorial Service for Jana will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 4:00 p.m., at Central United Methodist Church, 201 University Blvd. NE in Albuquerque. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Kiwanis Children's Fund, 3609-D Moon St. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Arrangements are in care of RIVERSIDE FUNERAL HOME OF ALBUQUERQUE 225 San Mateo Blvd. NE 764-9663
