Obituary for HENSLEY

Louise Wilson Hensley, 89, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, died Sunday, August 17, 2008. She is survived by her two daughters, Anne Harris and husband, Larry, Barbara Cannon and husband, Malcom; her sister, Joan Wilson Lybyer of Mountain Grove, Missouri; her nephew, Dr. James Lybyer; her niece, Jeanne Knight; four grandsons, Rev. Ftr John Cannon of Springer, NM, David Cannon and wife, Stephanie of Olive Branch, MS, Daniel Cannon and wife, Robin of Mancos, CO, and Aaron Harris of Frisco, TX. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren. Louise was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Benny Hensley, and her parents Bert and Bertha Wilson of Mountain Grove, MO. After graduating high school at 16, she attended an eight week summer session in teaching methods at Southwest Missouri State College, the fall found her teaching her first classes in a rural school, grades one through eight, at a salary of 60 dollars per month. In 1953, the family moved to Albuquerque, NM where she taught in the Albuquerque Public Schools for 33 years, ten years at Longfellow Elementary, ten years at Bel Air Elementary and 13 years as Special Education Diagnostician. In 1968, she was chosen by the Classroom Teacher's Association as the Albuquerque Teacher of the Year. She earned her Master's Degree at the University of New Mexico. Benny and Louise were among the first to introduce the registered Missouri Foxtrotting horse into New Mexico. Memorial services will be Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 2:00 p.m., at Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd. NE. Entombment of the Urn will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE.
