Obituary for LASTRA

Sandra K. Lastra went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 13, 2008. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, John; four daughters and their husbands Kimberly Lastra Haight (Michael), Kristen Packard (Don), Ashley Swanson (Chris), and Jennifer Beeston (Jeff); eleven grandchildren; sister, Charon Johnson (Tony); and brother James Bishop (Susan). Sandy was born on January 24, 1946 in Leadville, CO to Vernon and Katherine Bishop. She held a Master's degree in education from UNM. She was a most loving wife, dedicated mother and proud grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. One of her greatest gifts was loving people; to know her was to love her and to be loved by her. Sandy's heart for people was demonstrated through her teaching and many ministry activities. She received New Mexico's Top Teacher in 1996. Her ministries included various teaching and church ministries at Hoffmantown Church, Women of God, KFLQ Family Life radio, Prison Fellowship, and ICM. She had a great love for Israel and the Jewish people as evidenced by her dedication and support for Bridges for Peace, Yad b' Yad, Jewish Federation of New Mexico, and the Jewish Community Center. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at Hoffmantown Church, 8888 Harper Dr NE Albuquerque, NM 87111 Tuesday, August 19th at 10:30 AM.
