Luther Lee Rivera, 77, of Albuquerque, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at his home. He was born and raised in Northern NM. He joined the Marines after high school and served in Korea. He worked at Sandia Labs until his retirement in 1996. Luther was very involved in historic preservation, particularly ancient NM and Indian artifacts. He was well known as a Master Flintknapper and traveled the Southwest teaching and keeping the art alive for future generations. He also stayed busy publishing cookbooks, making wood crafts for fund raising activities, and writing children's books. Luther is survived by daughter, Kathy Jo Pannell (husband Doug); son, Andrew Rivera; brother, Joe Rivera (wife Katherine); sister, Bertha Hogan (husband Dan); grandson, James Efird; niece, Beverly Luna; grand-niece, Ontonette Luna; grand-nephew, Jordon Lopez; and many other extended family members. He was preceded in death by parents, Joe and Eva Rivera; and son, Russell Rivera. He will be greatly missed by many loving friends and family. Visitation will be held at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. Rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School NE on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. Burial will take place on Friday, August 15, 2008 at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
