Obituary for ROSS

Bernard A. Ross, 83, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2008, after a long illness. Bernard was born on March 1, 1925 in Grand Rapids, MI. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 44 and graduated from Catholic Central High School, where he was a member of the marching band. He briefly attended Aquinas College during World War II, leaving to serve in the Marine Corps. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Bernard spent his entire professional career with the Wayne County (MI) Road Commission where he became Engineer of Tests. He oversaw the Testing and Research Division and worked on many projects, including construction at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. After retiring, he lived in Saratoga, CA for 13 years prior to moving to Albuquerque in 1999. Bernard was an avid stamp collector, belonging to stamp clubs in Michigan, California and New Mexico. Bernard was the beloved and devoted husband of 57 years of Muriel D. (Karp) Ross, who survives him. He was a loving and attentive father and grandfather. He is survived by his four daughters, Mary Small of Loveland CO, Carol Ross-Baumann of St. Louis, MO, Patricia Cingel of Pinckney, MI, and Sharon DeLand of Albuquerque; his grandchildren, Amanda, Adam, and Sara Small, Matthew and Kurt Baumann, Rebecca DeLand, and Emily Cingel; and his sister, Dorothy Balahoski of Grand Rapids, MI. We shall miss him dearly. Visitation will be held at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, Saturday, August 9, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday, August 10, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary service. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 12500 Carmel Ave. NE, on Monday, August 11, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
