Paul Murray Giles, 89, died at his home in Albuquerque on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 after a year-long illness. Paul was born Thursday, January 2, 1919, in Grove City, PA, to Anna Murray and John Wesley Giles, the youngest of three children. In 1940, Paul graduated with an engineering degree from Grove City College, where he excelled academically and on the tennis team. His engineering career with General Electric at Schenectady, NY, was interrupted by service as a naval officer during World War II. Before shipping out to the Pacific, Paul married his childhood sweetheart, Ruth Hulbert. After the war, Paul resumed his career with GE, then with Hughes Aircraft in Tucson, and finally at Los Alamos National Labs, where he worked from 1957 to 1982. Paul enjoyed working crossword puzzles, played competitive tennis into his late 70's, was an avid bridge player and bicycle rider, an amateur radio operator since age 14, a singer with the Highland Harmonizers, and a member of the Friendly Wesleyan Sunday school class at Central Methodist Church. His sense of humor was intact to the end. Paul was the quintessential Christian gentleman. He was preceded by his wife, Ruth; and daughter, Toni; his parents; his brother, Jack; his sister, Frances Morrow. Paul is survived by his son, Murray, and wife, Patty, of Albuquerque; and grandson, Paul Giles III, of Morenci, AZ.
