Charles W. Vickers, a life-long resident of Albuquerque NM , passed away on Monday, July 21, 2008, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Chuck aka (Chug) was born in Grand Junction, CO, on Wednesday, July 2, 1952 and spent virtually his entire life in Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles S. Vickers and Betty J. Vickers; and is survived by his favorite aunt, Rosemary Johnston; and five brothers and sisters: Dr. Lon S. Vickers and his wife, Marke of Marietta, OH, Ann Motte and her husband, John of Perris, CA, Philip A. Vickers of Scottsdale and Sedona, AZ, John A. Vickers and his wife, Jannette of Vail, CO, and Tricia Wallace and her husband, Lyle W. of Parker, CO. Chuck is also survived by his beloved cousin, Julie Braswell and her husband, Bruce, as well as 12 nieces and nephews, and the Braswell boys. Chuck also will be greatly missed by his "girls", Tracey, Cindy, Mona, and Jules and his close hunting and golf buddies, Jim, Michael, Dennis, and Alex. Chuck attended St. Pius High School in Albuquerque and graduated with a degree in business from the University of New Mexico. He was a 25 year employee at UNM, retiring in 2000 having served as a financial executive in the Development Office of the University. In addition to his significant contributions to the UNM Development Office he also served a term as President of CASE, (Council for the Advancement of Secondary Education). Chuck was one of the two people who started UNM's very successful Presidential Scholarship Program. An avid golfer his entire life, he continued his passion for the game after retirement by working as a Ranger at the UNM North Course, and heavy involvement in the development of the Jr. Golf Program. He enjoyed his annual camping and hunting trips with his group of close friends, taking pride in never actually firing his rifle in over 20 years of "hunting" and camping with his friends. Music was a very important part of Chuck's life as he taught himself at an early age to play the guitar. He loved the music of Clapton, the Eagles, and Beatles, playing their music regularly. At one time, he was also a musician in a local Albuquerque band. There will be a "Celebration of Life" held on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at The UNM South Golf Course Pavillion from 4:00-6:00 p.m. His family invites all of Chuck's friends and friends of family members to join us in the celebration of his life.
