Lt. Col. William Edward Zimmermann age 95, died July 16, 2008 in Amarillo. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m., on Monday, July 21, 2008 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Msgr. Joseph Tash as celebrant. Private Family Burial will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia. Having been promoted to Lt. Col. during the Korean War, Bill decided to retire after completing 25 years in the military. In 1960 he and his young family made their home in Albuquerque, NM, beginning his second career, which was to span 14 years as a meteorologist with the US Weather Bureau. He made his home in Albuquerque for nearly 40 years until 2001, when he and Olive moved to Amarillo to be closer to their daughter. His wife, Olive preceded him in death on June 6, 2008. The family request that memorials be made to the Eveline Rivers Christmas Project, 314 South Jefferson, Amarillo, Texas, 79101
