Obituary for EDEN

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday June 22, 2008

Charlotte Marie Eden, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, and aunt passed into eternity on Thursday, June 19, 2008, with her family at her side. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Gail Eden; father, John Lewis; mother, Opal LaRue Like; and sisters, Earlette Gilstrap and Jean Killough. Charlotte has been reunited with her loved ones. Charlotte is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Gorden Eden Sr; her sons, U.S. Marshal Gorden Eden Jr. and wife, Mary, and Travis D. Eden and wife, Susan; grandchildren, Ryan and wife, Katie, Renee, Kyle, Josh and Cory; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was born in Raton, NM and was raised in Colorado, Oregon, and New Mexico, as her father worked in the mines. Charlotte and Gorden met in Albuquerque and were married on September 27, 1947. She was a homemaker for many years and was active in Job's Daughters, DeMolay Mother's Club and Central United Methodist Church, where she taught summer Bible school and Sunday school. Charlotte began a career in women's fashion retail at Joyce of Hawaii and in 1978, opened her own retail establishment, Charlotte's Boutique, where she did her part beautifying Albuquerque by outfitting many of the city's stylish women with her unique fashions! After nine years and at the dismay of her many customers, Charlotte sold the Boutique and went to work alongside Gorden, as they owned Gorden Eden Car and Truck Center, until their retirement in 1998. After a brief retirement, Charlotte worked at another family owned business, Rocky Mountain Awning, until returning to retail with the start of Coldwater Creek. Most recently, she joined Travis in opening another family business, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, where she worked and role modeled her strong work ethic. Charlotte loved her family and took pride in their accomplishments, and she especially cherished and doted on her grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, 10:00 a.m., at Central United Methodist Church, 201 University Ave., and Charlotte's grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at www.leukemia.org or the Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Society at www.rsds.org.
