Mary Louise Hoefer Meyers, 86, a resident of Rio Rancho, NM, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2008. Mary was born August 2, 1921 in Marceline, MO. Mary grew up in Salina, KS, where she met her husband, Walt. They were married in Washington, DC, on December 4, 1942. They moved to Los Alamos when Walt was stationed there during the Manhattan Project, and lived there for over 60 years. They moved to Colorado Springs, CO, in 1993, and then returned to New Mexico in 2000. Mary was treasured as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed her garden, her church, and cooking for her family. She loved Los Alamos, and her favorite way to spend an afternoon was to have a picnic in the Jemez Mountains. Above all, she loved and cared for her children and grandchildren, and would sacrifice anything for their well-being. She will always be remembered for her loving smile. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard (Dick) Meyers. Mary is survived by her husband of 66 years, Wilbert (Walt) Meyers of Rio Rancho; children, Lynn Perkins of Topeka, KS, Dr. Jim Meyers of Louisville, KY, Bob Meyers of Albuquerque, NM, Carole Steward of Los Alamos, NM, and Janice Meyers of Colorado Springs, CO; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service and Celebration of her life will be held on Friday, June 13, 2008 at 4:00 p.m., at the Bryce Avenue Presbyterian Church in White Rock, NM.
