Obituary for KING

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday June 11, 2008

Violet Majarov King, 89, passed to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, June 9, 2008. Born August 22, 1918 in Ohio to Vasa and Sabeta Majarov, immigrants from the Austria-Hungarian Empire, she was the youngest of their eight children. Her father died in the Flu Pandemic of 1918 when she was a few months old. With the help of family, church and community, her mother, brothers and sisters raised her in a loving and close family through the difficult years of the Great Depression. She married Cody Edison King in March 1937. They eloped to Ripley, WV so that Firestone Rubber Co. wouldn't find out, since during those difficult economic times married women weren't allowed to work. They moved to CA prior to the outbreak of WWII. She joined the ranks of "Rosie the Riveters" during the war effort. Her brother Peter was killed in France in November 1944 while serving in the Army. Cody worked industrial construction for B & W and Stearns-Rogers so they moved frequently. They chose Albuquerque as their home base in 1952 to raise their two children while Cody traveled. The family would join him during the summers. Their travels took them to 21 states, including NM, HI, AK, and Saskatchewan, Canada and Israel. They retired to their home in Albuquerque in 1977. Cody preceded her in death in 1991. She is survived by son, Wayne King and wife, Dorothy of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Cody Anne Kennedy and husband, Todd; great-grandson, Kalen of Lakewood, CO; grandson, Wayne E. King and wife, Celia; great-grandchildren, Kimberly and Wayne M. of Denton, TX; daughter, Reta M. King-Cannon of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Sara Spencer and husband, Shannon; great-granddaughters, Abigayle and Bryce Marie of Westminister, CO; granddaughter, Melinda Moncayo and husband, Jose; great-granddaughters, Madison and Gwyneth of Albuquerque; brother, Malcolm Majarov of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; and grand-niece Georgann Micono and family of Albuquerque. The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Sandias for their compassionate care. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, Thursday, June 12, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. to service at 2:00 p.m. Private interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
