Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday May 18, 2008

Alice Lovina Mock, 90, a resident of Albuquerque since November, 1950, died May 15, 2008. She was born on March 31, 1918, in a country settlement called New Haven near the town of Fleming, Colorado, where she later lived. She was the daughter of Bessie (Irish) and Lafe Newman who was killed in France during World War I. Her mother later married Russell whereby she has half brothers Lloyd and Arlin, and half sister Deloris Wolfe living. Alice is survived by her spouse, Cecil Raymond Mock, and four living children: Glennys Raffaeli and husband, Frank, of Lexington, Nebraska, Carolyn Bennett and husband, Kenneth of Albuquerque, Raymond Mock and wife, Joan, of Albuquerque, and Danny Mock and wife, Linda of Moriarty. Arden Davis and Gloria Self preceded Alice in death. Alice is also survived by her 12 grandchildren: Todd, Gregory, Christopher and Frank Jr. Raffaeli, Angela (Raffaeli), Arden Jr. Davis, Shannon (Davis), Steven Jr. Self, Danielle Self, Michael Ritz, Roxan Ritz and Jennifer Mock. There are around 14 great grandchildren. When she was 11 years old, Alice joined the Assembly of God Church in Fleming, Colorado, because she liked their singing. She became very active in the church, helping in many ways. She also met her lifelong friend there, Lena (Vance) Harms, whom she stayed in touch throughout their lives. Alice attended a number of different churches in Albuquerque, but none felt the same as the one in Fleming. When she was 16, Alice worked as a telephone operator in Fleming. In school, she even won a cooking award. In her early adult life, she became an excellent seamstress and enjoyed writing poetry as a hobby. Following World War II, when Cecil Mock was attending college in Boulder, Colorado, under the GI Bill, Alice and Cecil met and were married in 1948. This began the 60 married years of their life. Services will be held on Monday, May 19, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
