Obituary for SEDILLO

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday May 14, 2008

Filo M. "BoBo" Sedillo II, a life-long resident of Belen, NM passed away on Monday, May 12, 2008. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged, in 1958. BoBo married Corrine Gabaldon in 1958 in Belen. They traveled to Washington, D.C., where he worked as a Capitol Policeman and in the office of the late Sen. Clinton P. Anderson for five years. He also attended and graduated from Southeastern University with a Bachelor's degree in business administration. Upon returning to New Mexico, he worked for the State Highway Department, as the interim postmaster for Belen and also as Valencia County Undersheriff for the late Bill Holliday. He also served as the state representative for the late Congressman Harold Runnels in Valencia County. BoBo served in the State Legislature as the sergeant-at-arms for the New Mexico Senate. He ran a newspaper in Albuquerque for his father for a period of time. He later became a realtor in Valencia County and served as the president of the Valencia County Realtors Association. Probably his most interesting position and one to which he devoted much passion and energy was that of chairman of the Valencia County Democratic Party, a post he held for eight years. He successfully sought and encouraged some of the finest public officials his party could offer during that time. As an avid fisherman and hunter, with his two sons, the family enjoyed many years in the Jemez Mountains, where he had spent his childhood days with friends of the family at the Grottenthaler and later the Sedillo Ranch. His pride and joy were his sons, Filo and Antonio, particularly after he became a grandfather when he had the gift of his grandchildren's company as well. My "Little Em" and "Little Buddy Juan" shared many afternoons with Papa. "Little Livi" was special as well, but lived too far away to share afternoon treats. He was preceded in death by his parents, District Court Judge Filo M. Sedillo I and Emily Page Sedillo and his brother, Raul A. Sedillo. Filo is survived by his wife of 50 years, Corrine (Gabaldon) Sedillo of Belen; two loving children, Filo M. III and wife, Francine Shay Sedillo and their daughter, Olivia Shay all of Sydney, Australia and Antonio A. and wife, Paula Jean (Chavez) Sedillo and their two children, Emily Anne and Juan Antonio all of Belen and one sister, Sonia James. He is also survived by his many loving brother and sister-in-laws and loving nieces and nephews. All Services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a Visitation on Thursday, May 15, 2008, at 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A final Visitation will be held on Friday, May 16, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
