Obituary for MCCONNELL

Sharon Ann McConnell passed into her eternal rest on Friday, May 9, 2008. She was born March 28, 1943, in Oklahoma City, OK to Clarence and Mildred Dulaney.. She attended Norman High School, but graduated from Pompey High in Pompey New York, where she was living with her sister, Betty Lowe. Shortly after graduation, she returned to Oklahoma. She joined the Oklahoma city Chapter of Sweet Adelines where she met her husband, Rick McConnell. They were married in Norman, Oklahoma. Rick preceded her in death on October 1, 1982. Sharon sang with the award- winning Oklahoma City Chapter of Sweet Adelines from 1978 through 1985. She sang bass in a quartet that took several contests. She traveled to Hawaii and London for competitions. From 1998 to 1983, she attended Oscar Rose University in Midwest City, Oklahoma and played the Mayors wife in "Music Man". Her major was in vocal music. She finished her degree at Central State University in Edmond, Oklalhoma. After her husband's death, she moved to Colorado to live with her sister, Dana, and moved to Albuquerque with Dana after the death of Dana's husband. She worked for Park View Baptist Church as Secretary to the pastor until the Church sold their Building. At that time she retired, and joined Sandia Baptist Church. She is well-remembered by the members for her card ministry. She was very faithful to send birthday cards, anniversary cards, and get well cards to all the members. She had a great gift of encouraging people. She very often sent cards to tell one of the soloist how moved she was at their song, or to the pastor saying how the message moved her. Her presence will be missed. Sharon is survived by one son, Kevin Eric Ross, currently of Dallas, TX; two sisters, Betty Jean Lowe of Sytacuse, NY, Dana Skeel of Albuquerque, NM; two brothers, Clarence L. Dulaney of Missouri City, TX, and Patrick L. Dulaney of Denver, CO; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson of Lawton, Oklahoma. Services will held on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, 11:00 a.m., at Sandia Baptist Church, 9429 Constitution NE. In lieu of flowers, send donations to Young at Heart Choir, P.O.
