Obituary for LOFTUS

Mary Jo Loftus, 89, a long time resident of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Manzano del Sol. She was born in 1918 in Pueblo, Colorado. Mary Jo was a graduate of Albuquerque High School. On October 18, 1940 she married James A. Loftus in Los Lunas. After raising their three children to school age, she entered the workforce. She retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers following more than 20 years of service. She then indulged her passion for sewing and crafts and became an avid quilter. Mary Jo was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was a Past Matron and member of Desert Rose Chapter #70, Order of the Eastern Star, Past President and member of the Social Order of the Beauceant (500 B) Assembly #76, and a member of Daughters of the Nile. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Loftus, mother Georgia Klein Hamilton, step-father C.N. (Ham) Hamilton, brother Carl F. Klein, and son-in-law, Alfred B. Fielder. Mary Jo is survived by her three children, Richard and wife Donna Loftus of Albuquerque, Sharon Fielder of Silver City and Jamie March and husband, Gene, of Albuquerque, her adored grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as her large family of nieces, nephews and their families. She is further survived by many friends, including new friends at Manzano del Sol. The family will receive friends at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, Sunday, May 11, 2008, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Cremation will follow. A Memorial Service to celebrate Mary Jo's life will be held on Monday, May 12, 2008, at 1:00 p.m., at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9315 Candelaria Rd. NE.
