Martin "Joe" Lawson died on April 17, 2008. Born on May 12, 1949, to Martin and Rita Lawson, Joe grew up in Sterling, IL, and graduated from Sterling High School. He worked in industry for some time before earning a degree from Kishwaukee College in Dekalb, IL. His favorite activities included camping and hiking, gardening, cooking, and hanging out with his brothers and sisters and their many friends. In 1982, Joe moved to Albuquerque, where he met his future wife, Marcia Lincoln. Joe's quick wit and lively temperament soon earned him a circle of friends in Albuquerque, many of whom met and still meet for morning coffee almost daily at the original Flying Star on Central. His love for gardening, cooking, and fine wines resulted in many memorable dinners for friends. Joe and Marcia enjoyed camping and hiking in the Southwest and traveling in the United States and Europe. He was active in the Sertoma service club, whose work for the hearing-impaired he admired. Having always wanted to own his own business, he became the owner of Sterling Vending, LLC, which he managed until ill health forced him to retire. Joe leaves his wife, Marcia Lincoln; stepdaughter Miriam Komaromy, her husband Glen Ewing, and grandsons Spenser, Hunter, Gabriel, and Isaac Ewing of Corrales; stepdaughter Valerie Huaco, her husband Marty Lewallen, and grandsons August and Orion Lewallen of Kensington, CA. Joe especially enjoyed his six grandsons and regretted that his long illness cut short his activities with them. He had eight brothers and sisters: Ron Lawson and wife Noi of Bangkok, Thailand; Roger Lawson and wife Terry of Brodhead, WI; Ann Reuter and husband Tom of Sterling, IL; Bill Lawson and wife Toni of Albany, IL; Mary Troye and husband Chris of Sterling, IL, Bernie Lawson and wife Nancy of Geneseo, IL; John Lawson of Sterling, IL, who predeceased Joe; and Tim Lawson and wife Christine of Galesburg, IL, as well as numerous nephews and nieces and their children. Joe had a special gift for enjoying his family and friends. His amazing stories, colorful jokes, and warm chuckle will be greatly missed. His life will be celebrated at gatherings of family and friends in Albuquerque and in Sterling, IL.
