Obituary for BAKER

Mildred "Millie" Alberta Baker, 83, a resident of Albuquerque for 46 years, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 31, 2008. Millie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and spent her life giving to and serving others. Millie was born on November 30, 1924 in Frankfort, IN to Florence and L. Guy Baker. She graduated, with honors, from Frankfort High School in 1943 and married Charles T. "Ted" Hooker on December 27, 1945. Millie and Ted lived in Indiana until 1957, at which time they moved to Denver, CO. In 1962 they relocated to Albuquerque, NM. Millie went to work for Sandia National Laboratories as a division secretary, remaining there until her retirement in 1983. While working at Sandia she embarked on a second career as a medical transcriptionist, working for Lovelace Medical Center for over 20 years. She started her own business, "Your Type Co.", and continued working as a medical transcriptionist until her death. Millie's greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren, friends, and family, entertaining in her home, and frequenting the shops and galleries in Santa Fe and Taos. She was an animal lover, sharing her life with numerous furry friends over the years. She is survived by her son, Andy Hooker and wife, Mary Lou, of Flower Mound, TX; daughter, Adair Paul and husband, Allan, of Alamogordo, NM; grandchildren Katherine Hooker, Sara Hooker, Caroline Hooker, Nick Paul, Andrew Paul, and Kayla Paul; brother Richard "Dick" Baker and wife, Jean, of Erwin, TN; sister-in-law, Jane Gerritty, of Wilmington, NC: nephews, Bruce Aughe and wife, Julie, of Frankfort, IN, Tracy Baker and wife, Ann, of Springlake, MI, and David Baker and wife, Marge, of Tucson, AZ; devoted neighbors, Bob and Dohna Bates; beloved dog Jack; the ladies from Lovelace; and numerous other friends. Millie was preceded in death by her parents, Florence and Guy Baker; two sisters, Virginia Aughe and Geraldine Miller; and her former husband, Charles "Ted" Hooker. A Memorial Service and celebration of Millie's life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at her home at 9905 Mesa Arriba NE. Her cremated remains will be laid to rest at a later date in the Centennial Urn Garden at Sunset Memorial Park. The family would like to thank all her friends and family for their prayers, love, and support, and the staff at VistaCare Hospice for their kindness and excellent care.
