Obituary for THOMAS

Dr. Eric A.Thomas, 36, of Albuquerque, NM, went to be with his heavenly Father Saturday, March 22, 2008, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, due to complications of Leukemia. Dr. Thomas was a 17-year resident of Albuquerque, NM. He was born November 10, 1971, in Oxnard, CA. He grew up in Camarillo, CA, and attended Rio Mesa High School where he was a member of the varsity basketball and track teams. Dr. Thomas received his undergraduate and medical degree from the University of New Mexico. He also completed a residency in orthopedics at UNM. He was a WAC Scholar Athlete for four years while participating in LOBO basketball. He was the first student member of the Board of Regents for the University of New Mexico. Dr. Thomas completed a fellowship in spine surgery at OrthoIndy in Indianapolis, IN. He was a Spine Surgeon for Spine, Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Center in Albuquerque. He was an invaluable contributor and collaborator with NuVasive, Inc., a spine surgery company. He was a pioneer in their XLIF procedure, and was instrumental in the design and development of new and improved spine products, as well as teaching other spine surgeons for the company. Eric was loved by all and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His faith and courage was an inspiration to all that knew him, and his spirit will continue to live in our hearts. Dr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Kari Thomas; a son, Benjamin James Thomas; his parents, Benjamin and Donna Thomas; his brother, Brent and wife, Tonya; a sister, Jennifer Cover and husband, Dan. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Sagebrush Community Church, 6440 Coors Blvd., Albuquerque, NM. Golf attire is requested. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dr. Eric A. Thomas Memorial Fund to support Bone Marrow Donor Registration and awareness for the State of New Mexico.
