Obituary for ZORN

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday March 04, 2008

Howard Walton Zorn, 86, was born in Underwood Township, County of Redwood, MN, and died peacefully in his home in Albuquerque, NM, on February 29, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Erna, and son, William (Bill). Another son, Robert (Bobby) welcomed his dad into the love and joy of heaven. Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Doris Zorn; niece, Diane Cronen; and nephew, Dean Zorn. As a young boy growing up on a farm, Howard dreamed of someday working for Minneapolis Honeywell (now Honeywell International, Inc.). Those childhood dreams were realized, and Howard retired from Honeywell after 35 years of dedicated service. During those years he received many letters of commendation and special awards in recognition of his excellent job performance. Howard was a WWII Veteran and member of DAV Chapter 33. He was a Life Member of the Instrument Society of America., volunteered at the Lomas/Tramway Library, tutored in the OASIS tutoring program, and served as a judge in Precinct 514 for almost 30 years. When Howard was 12 years old his grandfather let him drive a Model-T Ford around on the farm. This exciting experience instilled in him a love for cars, and he enthusiastically immersed himself in activities of the Veteran Motor Car Club of America and the New Mexico Council of Car Clubs. He treasured the memories of his experiences with other car enthusiasts. Howard cherished his life. He had happy memories of his childhood and liked to tell of the times he rode his horse, Old Dan, to an all-grades country school. Sometimes he hitched Old Dan to a wagon and picked up schoolmates for a fun, and sometimes mischievous, trip to school. He kept in touch with Army buddies and attended almost every battalion reunion. Howard had a great and rare sense of humor that evoked many chuckles and laughs from family, friends, and coworkers. He was a kind, thoughtful, considerate and loving husband and father. His friends found him to be cheerful, helpful and loyal. Howard was a very special person who will be missed so very much. Many thanks to the Zia Hospice for the excellent care they provided Howard. He will be laid to rest in the Veterans' Section of Sandia Memory Gardens, 9500 San Pedro Drive NE. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services at 3113 Carlisle Blvd NE. Memorial may be made to Cuidando los Ninos, P.O.
