Obituary for HAMBY

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday February 24, 2008

Richard W. Hamby, 69, of Los Lunas, New Mexico, said Happy Trails for the last time on February 15, 2008. He was born July 16, 1938, in San Marcos, Texas; grew up in San Angelo, Texas; and graduated with an Agronomy Degree from Texas Tech University. He started his agriculture career with the Bureau of Land Management in Laredo, Texas, and then relocated to Socorro, New Mexico, as a range specialist. After seven years with the BLM, Richard then turned to real estate, specializing in ranches and land. He devoted his time as a licensed real estate agent seeking and exploring the vast open spaces of New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, and Arizona and finding perfect properties for his clients. He also founded a hat retainer business called Hatsoff, Inc. with his daughter Perri in 1990. Richard loved his family, his country, the outdoors, and anything "cowboy." Richard will be deeply missed by all who encountered him, not only for his dry wit and soft-spoken humor, but also for his ability to cook up the tastiest smoked brisket this side of the Mississippi. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Pam Rishel, of Los Lunas; a son, Clint Hamby, and wife, Tonya, granddaughters Taylor and Caitlyne of Alpine, Texas; a daughter, Perri Jennings and husband, Randy, of McAlister, New Mexico; and best friend Bob Calkins and wife, Lavon, of Farmington, New Mexico. A Memorial cowboy gathering will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2008, at the Hamby home in Los Lunas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to El Ranchito de los Ninos, PO Box 2400, Los Lunas, NM 87031.
