Obituary for LEATHERS

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday February 13, 2008

David C. Leathers passed away at his home on February 8, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. How does one summarize the life of a man with a brilliant mind and a keen sense of humor, who accomplished so much in his lifetime. He was a loving and caring son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all who allowed him into his life. David leaves behind to mourn him, his loving wife, Juanita (Gutierrez) Leathers, whom he married on September 5, 1957. From this union, two beautiful children were created: a loving and doting son, Martin Leathers and wife Wendy and their families; a loving and doting daughter, Diane Leathers-Alarcon and husband Gerald and their families. Other survivors include a brother, Wallace Leathers and wife, Linda; a sister, Marjorie Spaller and husband, Richard, all from Painesville, Ohio; a former sister-in-law, Alice Leathers from Fairport Harbor, Ohio; his computer buddy, Roger Munoz from Albuquerque; his dear friends and neighbors, Rudy and Emily Garcia, who were there with a helping hand and delicious meals that he so enjoyed. The family thanks Presbyterian Hospice for their professional and tender care they provided, especially Dr. John Liljestrand; all the nurses, particularly Joyce Wesselink and Social Worker Linda Horwitz, who walked him through his darkest moments. Cremation has taken place and his remains will be carried to his final resting place by his godchild, David Martinez. A Graveside Service will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, February 15, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. with Military Honors. He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran, having honorably served during World War II, aboard the USS Pasadena. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Presbyterian Hospice, 8300 Constitution Ave NE. Albuquerque, NM. 87110. (505) 559-1133. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th St. NW. ABQ. 505-343-8008
