Obituary for BOWER

Joe C. Bower, age 84, of Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care, New Wilmington, PA, formerly of 1277 George St. Ext., Sharon, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at the home where has resided since 2004. Mr. Bower was born July 15, 1923 in Greenville, PA, the son of the late Ralph E. and Malinda Mowry Bower. He was a 1941 graduate of the former Fredonia-Delaware High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from Slippery Rock State College and his master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He received advanced credity at Westminster College and several other universities. Mr. Bower was a biology teacher at Sandy Lake High School for four years, at Sharon High School for 30 years, and retired in 1981. He later worked as a park ranger at Shenango recreation area for several years. Joe was a member of Shenango Lodge #668 F&AM, now Shenango Lodge #810, Hermitage; member, director, and past secretary of Western Reserve Fish and Game Protective Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and outdoor activities, and for many years, during retirement, participated in the Senior Olympics. Mr. Bower served in the US Navy three years in WWII and was a a radio operator for 18 months in the South Pacific. His wife, the former Margaret V. Pizor, whom he married June 11, 1949, died November 30, 2005. He is survived by two sons; Dr. David Bower of Athens, OH and Dr. Bruce Bower and his wife, Dr. Susan Little, of San Diego, CA; four grandchildren, Matthew Bower and wife, Stephanie, of Rio Rancho, NM, Aaron Bower of Albuquerque, NM, and Kevin and Lauren Bower of San Diego, CA. Preceded in death by brother, Frank L. Bower. The family requests memorial tributes to Alzheimer's Association or American Hearth Association. The family expresses appreciation to the staff of Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care; Dr. Morgenstern and staff; home caregiver, Faith McClimans; and neighbor, Joe Brashen. Funeral Services are Saturday, February 16, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. in Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home, 264 E. State St., Sharon, PA with Rev. Pam Maloney, associate pastor officiating.
