Obituary for CHAVEZ

Nick M. Chavez Jr., 79, born July 12, 1928, a lifetime resident of the Village of Los Ranchos, passed away Friday, February 8, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Priscilla Chavez; sons, Larry Chavez, Daniel Nick Chavez and wife, Kathy Chavez; daughter, Deborah Chavez-Jaramillo and husband, Johnny Jaramillo; and granddaughter, Nicki Jaramillo; his brother, Edward Chavez and his wife, Rosemary Chavez; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Chavez; and brothers, Henry, Delfino, Johnny, Alfredo (Fecho); and sister, Lita Chavez. Nick Chavez was a member of a historical New Mexico Hispanic family, with roots dating back to the late 1600s in New Mexico's north valley. Nick served in the infantry during the Korean Conflict and worked for 35 years as a truck driver for ICX. He was also a member of the Teamster's Union, The American Legion Post 69 and received many awards of recognition for his community service with the Senior Citizens of Bernalillo County. Nick was an active member and helper in his church, Eagle Rock Worship Center, 7518 Oakland Ave. NE, and will be missed by his family and many friends but, he will live in our hearts forever. Services will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 10:30 a.m., at Eagle Rock Worship Center, 7518 Oakland Ave. NE. Interment will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 2:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Friends may visit Eagle Rock Worship Center on Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. until service time.
