Obituary for WOOD

Gene Wilman Wood, 73 of Tucumcari, NM died Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness. Gene was born July 19, 1934 in Donna, Texas to the home of Jay W. and Margaret (Morton) Wood. He grew up and attended school at Mountainair, NM. Gene was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged after serving four years at the rank of Airman Third Class. Gene was employed as a Superintendent for Broce Construction Company for many years. He retired in 2000. Gene was a member of Elks Club #1172 and American Legion Post #77 at Logan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Wood in 2003 and a son, Rory Wood in 1989. Survivors include three sons, Joseph Montano of Tucumcari; Dean Montano and wife, Christine of Tucumcari, NM and John Alvarez and wife, Lina of Rio Rancho, NM. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and his two pet dogs, "Missy" and "Junior". He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing bingo and visiting the casinos and was a regular visitor to Laughlin and Las Vegas, NV. Graveside Services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Monday, February 11, 2008 at Tucumcari Memorial Park in Tucumcari, NM. with Deacon Bob Welch officiating. Cremation has taken place, arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
