Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday January 17, 2008

Dr. Eloy L. Romero, 73, of Monticello NM, passed away January 13, 2008. We were blessed to have had him at home and to have been with him as he gave up the burdens of this life. Dr. Romero was born on May 10, 1934 in Monticello, NM, the second of four children belonging to Marcos A. and Angelica M. Romero. He started his life on the family ranch and continued that tradition throughout his life. Cattle, horses, chickens and numerous other creatures remain a part of the Romero household to this day. Eloy loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family. He liked to hunt as long as he could shoot the buck and have it fall right into the truck skinned, gutted and ready for the freezer. Eloy married a beautiful young lady by the name of Helen Duncan from Sapulpa Oklahoma in 1954 and became the blessed father of five daughters. He taught us so many things, butchering, building, plowing, bailing hay, irrigating, ditch digging, brick laying, you know boy stuff. While an officer with the Albuquerque Police Department, Eloy attended the University of New Mexico receiving his Masters Degree in 1971 and his PhD Clinical Psychology in 1974. After going into practice Eloy enjoyed a well rounded career with the University of New Mexico, the Albuquerque Indian School and extensive work with the Chama Valley School System. Dr. Romero retired from the Los Lunas Correctional Facility finishing a career of helping those in the greatest need. Dr. Romero is survived by his wife of fifty four years, Helen Eva Romero; brother, Marcos Romero Jr.; daughters, Denise Padilla and husband, Mario, Rebecca Romero, Audrey Austin and husband, Dan, and Kathryn Romero; grandchildren, Michael Padilla, Bryan Padilla, Daniel Padilla, Jennifer Miller, Erin Miller, Steven Miller, Neil Lubarsky, and Robin Lubarsky; great-grandchildren, Damian Padilla, Jocobo and Michael Lubarsky; and a brand new great-granddaughter, Charleen Marie, born January 12, 2008; and numerous other members of the Romero and Duncan family. Dr. Romero was preceded in death by his daughter, Charleen Anna Marie Romero-Lubarsky; parents, Marcos and Angelica Romero; brother, Redolfo Romero; and sister, Alice Griego. Dr. Romero leaves a loving family to rejoin others that he has loved and missed. Be at peace Daddy. Rosary will be recited Thursday, January 17, 2008, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary - University Blvd. Chapel.
