"Ed" Edgar David Hughes of Albuquerque passed away after a lengthy illness on January 9, 2008. He was born September 5, 1921 in Utica, New York, to Mammie Lotty Wilson and Robert John Hughes. Ed was a decorated World War II Infantry veteran who fought in the Pacific theatre of operations. He received a bronze star with three oak-leaf clusters, and a purple heart by the time he was discharged as a Captain. Ed moved to the Southwest looking for the sun, where he settled in Silver City and met and married his wife, Dorothy, on September 5, 1951. He loved prospecting, building stone walls and woodworking. Ed was a member of the Masonic Silver City Lodge #8, A.F. & A.M. The family moved to Albuquerque in 1965. Later, he enjoyed being a member of the New Mexico Quilters Association with his wife, Dorothy. Ed is survived by his wife, Dorothy, sons David and Allyn, and daughter Catherine. Ed was a devoted and loving husband and father. We will miss him very much. We thank all his healthcare providers who cared for him, including Home Instead and Heritage Hospice, who helped so much, and were always there for him and us at the end. Cremation has taken place. At Ed's request, there will be no services. Interment will take place privately. French Mortuary, Inc. 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE (505) 275-3500 www.frenchmortuary.com
