Anthony W. Lopez June 29, 1985 - December 8, 2007 Anthony W. Lopez, 22, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2007. He was born in Taos, NM, on June 29, 1985, to Sammy M. and Kathy L. Lopez. Anthony attended grade school in Ruidoso and Carlsbad, NM. He attended high school in Carlsbad. He was a member of the CHS Band. Anthony graduated from Youth Challenge Academy in Roswell, NM, in 2002, where he was awarded platoon leader of the 1st Platoon. He held a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He participated in Tae Kwon Do tournaments in Las Vegas, NV. He enjoyed music, riding ATVs, swimming, lifting weights, watching football and spending time with his children. He was certified as a wildland forest firefighter and in First Aid and CPR. Anthony also enjoyed spending time on the beach in San Diego. He was a certified nursing assistant and worked for a short time at Carlsbad Medical Center. He also worked in maintenance at The Daily Times in Farmington, NM. In 2003 he moved with his family to Las Cruces, where we worked in landscaping. He also attended Dona Ana Community College. His former girlfriend, Katherine Leyba, 23, and two children, Jeremiah Anthony Lopez, 5, and Jazmine Faith Lopez, 3, all of Carlsbad, survive Anthony. He also is survived by his parents, Sammy M. and Kathy L. Lopez; and his sister, Melinda Ann Lopez, 16, of Farmington; and by his grandparents, Victor and Antonia (Toni) Lopez of Jarales, N.M. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gene (Blackie) and Jean Heth, also of Jarales. A visitation will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, 1010 Church St., Belen, NM, at 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2007, with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. A visitation also will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, followed at 9 a.m. by a Funeral Mass at Lady of Belen Catholic Church.
