Mildred Josephine Mayes, 86, a resident of New Mexico for the past 47 years, passed away on Monday, November 26, 2007. Mildred was born July 28, 1921 the daughter of Lloyd G. and Grace Ella Dean Melcum in Keystone Township, Kansas. She was a founding member of the First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho, and the American Business Women's Association, of which she was 'Woman of the Year' in 1976. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph L. Mayes. She is survived by three children, Mary Nelson of Ft. Worth, TX, Darla Mornhinweg and husband, Larry of San Jose, CA, and Dennis Mayes and wife, Debra of Corrales, NM; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one brother, Earl Melcum and wife, Winnie of Sun City, CA. No services are scheduled at this time. In lieu of flowers, it has been suggested that memorials in Mildred's name be made to the Alzheimer's Association, New Mexico Chapter, 9500 Montgomery NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
