Barry Rumbles, MSW, long-time member of the Chancel Choir at Central United Methodist Church in Albuquerque New Mexico, psychologist, social worker, educator, actor, father and husband, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Saturday November 10, 2007. His wife of 49 years, Beverly, was with him when he died. Son Bryce, currently of Fort Lauderdale, was en route at the time. He was preceded in death by his daughter Lisa; his aunt Josephine; his mother Elizabeth; and his father Jack. Rumbles was a clinical social worker at Lovelace Clinic for 13 years. Before that, he worked for several years as psychologist at the Central New Mexico Correctional Facility in Los Lunas. Prior to coming to New Mexico in 1980, Rumbles was with the Arcadia (CA) Unified School District for ten years. Before earning his Master's degree in social work at USC, he worked in probation departments for Yolo and San Bernardino Counties in California. Blessed with a beautiful singing voice, Rumbles was also an accomplished actor, playing parts in Albuquerque Little Theater productions in the '80s (memorably, Boo Radley in To Catch a Mockingbird), and in various musical comedies (Judd Fry in Oklahoma; the baritone "bad guy" roles in various Gilbert and Sullivan productions) in other venues. Rumbles leaves behind a wife, a son, two grandchildren, Jacob and Hailey, and innumerable friends, co-workers, and acquaintances. A Memorial Service will be held at the Central United Methodist Church, Wednesday, November 14th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Central United Methodist Church General Fund in Barry's name.
