Peggy Paxton Dailey, age 89, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2007 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born to Walter and Margaret Paxton on January 21, 1918, in Kansas City, MO. Her mother was a Harvey Girl and later became the supervisor of the famous "Harvey Girls" at Kansas City's Union Station. Her father was superintendent of the John J. Greer Hotel Co. in Kansas City, KS. Peggy moved to Socorro, NM in 1929 when her parents took over the management of the Val Verde Hotel. Peggy had wonderful stories and fond memories of her childhood in Socorro. In 1939, Peggy earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (music and piano) at the University of New Mexico. She was one of four graduates earning that degree. After graduation, she returned to Socorro and opened a private school at the Val Verde Hotel. She had been teaching for two years when a tall, handsome stranger walked into the hotel. He was working for New Mexico State University and was in Socorro for business. He met Peggy at the top of the hotel stairway. It was love at first sight, and Peggy and Frank Dailey were married on December 24, 1941 at the First Presbyterian Church in Socorro. It was a marriage that lasted 50 years until his death in 1992. After WWII, Peggy and Frank came home to Socorro. They had two children and became active in the Socorro community. Peggy taught elementary music in the Socorro Consolidated Schools for 25 years. She touched the lives of so many children, and was always happy when those children, who are now adults, would approach her and tell her what fond memories they had of her and her music. Peggy was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church in Socorro, and a member of PEO-Chapter M. Peggy was preceded in death by a son, Frank Paxton Dailey; her husband, Frank Johnson Dailey; and her son-in-law, Bobby D. Haddock. She is survived by her son, Walter Thomas Dailey and wife, Paula, of Scottsdale, AZ; and her daughter, Sallie Dailey Haddock of Albuquerque. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Paul C. Haddock and wife, Jennifer; Pamela H. Buckley and husband, Colin; Amanda E. Dailey, Crystal K. Dailey, and Michael T. Dailey. She also leaves five great-grandchildren, Alexander and Christopher Buckley; and Olivia, Isaac, and Alexis Haddock. She is also survived by her cousin, David Paxton and wife, Nancy. Peggy Paxton Dailey will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren who affectionately called her "Ma". She was truly a woman of grace, dignity, and beauty. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 304 McCutcheon Avenue, Socorro, NM. Interment will be in the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
