Obituary for SPURRIER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday November 04, 2007

Naomi W. Spurrier, 91, journeyed on to her next adventure on October 31, 2007. Born on a farm in Ashland County, OH in 1916, Naomi moved to Santa Fe with husband, Richard R. Spurrier in 1946. She volunteered with St. Vincent's Hospital Auxiliary and helped found the Girls Club of Santa Fe. As a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for over 30 years, Naomi served as Treasurer, sand in the church choir, and contributed to the success of many other activities. She moved to Albuquerque in 1999. Throughout her life, Naomi gave selflessly of her time, energy, material possessions, and personal strengths to her family, church and community. Trained as a bookkeeper, she worked in that capacity in Wooster, OH and several southwestern cities before and during Capt. Spurrier's service overseas in WWII. Anyone who crossed the threshold of a home Naomi made was welcomed into a serene, warmly decorated haven nourished by her good cooking and conversation, brightened by the flowers she loved to grow. She is survived by one sister, Virginia M. Gerstenslager of Wooster; her daughters, Sarah W. Spurrier of Albuquerque and Sophie W. Spurrier of Los Angeles, CA; two grandsons, Uriel and Jay Utter of Bozeman, MT: and many nieces and nephews throughout the country.
