Obituary for FITZ-GERALD

Dorothy Ann Burke Fitz-Gerald, 63, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, October 22, 2007, in Rome, Italy. Born in Gallup, NM, on July 26, 1944 to Mary Noonen Burke and Frank J. Burke, the loving mother and wife called Albuquerque home. A graduate of St. Pius X High School, the Southwestern Art and History enthusiast was recognized in Who's Who in American Colleges following her matriculation from Loretto Heights College in Denver, CO. Upon returning to Albuquerque, she served as a public health nurse with the Bernalillo County Health Department, later marrying Gerald Fitz-Gerald, Jr. on August 19, 1967. Throughout her life, Dorothy was an active philanthropist in the community, most notably as a docent for the Albuquerque Museum, a board member of Casa Angelica, a home for developmentally disabled children, and as a fundraiser for the Nancy Floyd Haworth Breast Cancer Foundation, recently spearheading an innovative library education program throughout New Mexico. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband, Gerald with whom she recently celebrated the couples' 40th anniversary; two children, Gerald (Trey) Fitz-Gerald III, of Salt Lake City, UT and Erin Elizabeth Fitz-Gerald of Albuquerque; one grandchild, Catherine Ann Fitz-Gerald Lacey (Katie); four brothers, John P. Burke and wife, Patricia of Austin, TX, Michael F. Burke and wife, Virginia of Tucson, AZ, Joseph K. Burke and wife, Mary Ellen of Denver, CO and James P. Burke and wife, Gaye of Tucson, AZ; one sister, Kathleen Burke Anthony of Albuquerque; and many loving nephews, nieces and countless friends. A Memorial Rosary will be recited Monday, October 29, 2007, 6:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, October 30, 2007, 1:30 p.m., at Immaculate Conception Church, 619 Copper NW, with a reception following the service at Los Poblanos Event Center, 4803 Rio Grande NW, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy's name to the Albuquerque Museum Foundation, P.O.
