Obituary for GALICKI

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Monday October 01, 2007

Krzysztof Stanislaw, August 10, 1958 - September 24, 2007. He was originally from Poland and has lived in America since the early eighties. He was the beloved son of Zygmunt and Krystyna of Wroclaw, Poland; and devoted brother and brother-in-law of Dorota and Evan Thomas of Melbourne, Australia and loving uncle of their two young daughters. For close to twenty years Rowan Galicka Wymark had the extraordinary privilege of being his wife and best friend. Krzysztof was a mathematics professor at the University of New Mexico for the last 17 years and did excellent and important work. On July 8th while hiking in the Swiss Alps he tragically fell 500 feet and sustained a catastrophic brain injury. In spite of small sparks of hope and the loving support and prayers of many around the world, he never regained consciousness and the hard decision was recently made to let him go with honor and dignity. Krzystztof has been a good friend to many good people, a respected mathematician and a person full of life and vigor. A world without him will be a smaller and darker place. He is already greatly missed. On Saturday, November 10th at 11:00 a.m. there will be a celebration of his life at the UNM Memorial Chapel followed by a reception. We thank all the people that loved and cherished this wonderful man and played a part in helping him on his final journey. Ms. Wymark would particularly like to thank all of the various institutions that took good and loving care of her husband, especially UNMH, Kindred Hospital and Presbyterian Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Presbyterian Hospice in his memory. Fear no more the heat o' the sun, Nor the furious winter's rages; Thou thy wordly task hast done, Home art gone, and ta'en thy wages; Golden lads and girls all must, As chimney-sweepers, come to dust.
