Lucia Candelaria Sanchez Martinez, 89, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 after a long illness. Lucy was born in Sanchez, NM and raised in Trementina, NM. She graduated from Solano High School and attended Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM. She lived in the Albuquerque area for over 50 years. Lucy was active at the North Valley Senior Citizens Center for 30 years and served on the Council. Lucy leaves behind her husband, Benito Policarpio Martinez of Albuquerque, NM; three children, Gloria Reed of Albuquerque, NM, Benjamin Martinez of New Smyrna Beach, Fl, and Irene Martinez DeTar and husband, Mark, of Round Rock, TX; grandchildren, Michele (Ray) Milburn of Grants, NM, Christine Reed of Albuquerque, NM, Carl Reed III of Albuquerque, NM, Steven Martinez of San Diego, CA, Beth Martinez of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Ethan Martinez DeTar of Round Rock, TX; great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Jameson and Daryl Iris Ray; and Michael Melonas of Grants, NM. She is also survived by two sisters, Sofia Martinez and Rose Spencer; and three brothers, Onecimo Sanchez, Luis Sanchez and Carlos Sanchez. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Erinea Madrid Sanchez and Onecimo Esquibel Sanchez; brothers, Lorenzo Sanchez of Albuquerque, NM, Daniel Sanchez of Grants, NM; sisters, Eliza Garcia of San Rafael, NM and Consuelo Sanchez of Albuquerque, NM. A Rosary for Mrs. Martinez will be recited on Sunday evening, September 30, 2007 at Salazar & Sons Mortuary at 7:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 1, 2007 at St. Therese Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George Garcia, Michele (Ray) Milburn, Carl Reed III, Chelsea Ray, Steve Martinez, Daryl Iris Ray, Larry Sanchez and Dennis Sanchez.
