Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday September 13, 2007

TONY O. LUCERO MARCH 5, 1928 - SEPTEMBER 9, 2007 Sunday afternoon, September 9, 2007 Tony O. Lucero was reunited in heaven with his mother and father, Margarita (Varela) and Evaristo; his infant son, Michael; and five of his eight brothers and sisters. He passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family. They include Josephine, his beloved wife of 58 years; his son, Tony, Jr. and wife, Deedra; his daughter, Patricia and fiance, Robert Roybal; grandchildren, Jennifer and husband, Brian Wiggins, Carlos Trujillo, Tre Lucero, Travis and wife, Jessica Lucero; great-grandchildren, Angelica, Sage, David, and Alexyss, Alaina and Vanessa, Lily, and Ashlynne. He was a father figure to, and was adored by numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved as though they were his own children. His best friends were his many brothers- and sisters-in-law. Tony was born and raised in Pecos, NM where he fell in love with Josephine from neighboring Rowe. He was 16 and she was 14, and she remembers fondly how he chased her down the halls at school. He retired as terminal manager in Albuquerque for Greyhound Bus Lines after 38 years of service having started as a baggage handler. His family was his whole life and he loved nothing better than being with them. He loved fishing in the Pecos River and playing Norteno and Ranchera music on his guitar, especially with his younger brother Johnny. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services. If you wish to memorialize him in some way, perhaps you could teach a child to fish. and remember as he always said to us in departing, "don't take any wooden nickels".
