Obituary for SPRAGGINS

Langford K. (Lang) Spraggins, 91, passed away at his home in Corrales on August 31, 2007. Lang was born in Chicago, Illinois May 15, 1916. Lang was preceded in death by his wife, Espy L. Lang and Espy L. were married in Chicago in 1937. They lived there where Lang was a Vice President of New York Life Insurance Company and an original member of the Million Dollar Roundtable. Lang's long-time interest was the West and the people who settled it. In 1968 Lang retired and moved to Albuquerque where he opened Purple Sage Antique Guns. Renowned as a collector of the Old West, Lang's collection of artifacts from the lives of Billy the Kid, Doc Holliday and General George A. Custer brought many collectors and historians to his place of business. This massive collection of Old West artifacts was sold in Denver earlier this year. Lang was a director of the Texas Gun Collectors Association for 12 years, a member of New Mexico Gun Collectors and Colt Collectors Association. Preceding Lang in death were his son, Langford Spraggins, Jr. and his daughter, Espy Lillian. He is survived by daughter, Gail Elizabeth; granddaughter, Rachel Davis and great-grand-daughters, Ellynne E., Korinne and great-grandson, Kirklun; Step-granddaughter, Rebecca Davis and husband , Ted; step great-grandson, Kyle and step great-grandson, Kellen; sisters-in laws, Sandra A. Morrison and Gloria Bynum; brother-in-law, Anthony Anglin and numerous nieces and nephews. Plans are pending for a memorial service.
