Della H. Montoya, 85, a lifelong resident of Grant County, now a resident of Las Cruces, entered eternal rest Thursday, August 30, 2007 at Desert Willow at Northrise Nursing Home in Las Cruces, NM. She was born January 29, 1922 in Hurley, NM to Ramon Hernandez and Nemecia Trujillo. She was married to Don C. Montoya for 65 years; who preceded her in death December 24, 2005. She was an instrument of peace and support for her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was a successful gardener; will be remembered for her gifts of masterful crocheting pieces and her specialized New Mexican cuisine. She was an avid reader and talented artist. She will be missed dearly by her family. She is survived by one son, Dr. Donald H. Montoya and his wife, Kim of Silver City; one daughter, Betty Jane Burlingame of Las Cruces; seven grandchildren, Stephen Montoya, Deborah Chase, Sean Montoya, Deidre Shonk, Dominque Montoya, Jessica and Alex Hallwyler; six great-grandchildren, Breanna, Paige, Amber, Oliver, Grace, and Oskar. Mrs. Montoya was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Mary Montoya (1952). Visitation will be held Monday, September 3, 2007 at 6 p.m. at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Deacon Jerry Miller reciting the Holy Rosary. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 4, at 10 a.m. at Santa Clara Catholic Church with Father Robert Becerra officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Armando Montoya, Stephen Montoya, Alex Hallwyler, Michael Montoya, Oliver Perrault, and Thomas Price.
