David On August 5, 2007 David Vigil passed on from this life. David was born in Gallup, NM to a railroad family. He traveled with his mother Charlotte,his father Maclovio and his sister Sylvia to the various railroad assignments. Due to the frequent school changes his mother moved to California to allow the children to complete their educations. At age 15 , David joined the Navy, served his country then returned to California and completed nursing school. There he met his wife to be, Barbara. They were married for 43 years. In California as a Registered Nurse, David worked as a scrub nurse in the operating room. a house supervisor, an inservice education coordinator and an Assistant Director of Nursing at Rio Hondo Hospital in Downey, California. In 1970 he moved with his family to Albuquerque and was employed at Presbyterian Hospital as a staff nurse in the critical care unit. He then applied for and was promoted to Director of Respiratory Therapy. In 1980 he became Senior Staff Nurse on the acute Surgical, renal Transplant and category 1 and 11 trauma patients at University of New Mexico Hospital. In 1981 he transferred to the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Division of Emergency Medicine as a Paramedic Instructor. In 1983 he was promoted to Advanced Life Coordinator, Paramedic Division. In 1985 he was employed by the City of Albuquerque Fire Department, Paramedic Division as Advanced Life Support Coordinator. He truly enjoyed providing education to these young men and many became life long friends. It was a pleasure to attend the graduations and recognize the professionalism displayed by them. In 1996 David worked at St. Joseph Hospital as Trauma Nurse Coordinator. He retired in 1997 to pursue travel with his wife, diving, shooting and photography. During his career he always showed compassion for his patients, commitment to his students and encouraged and assisted many thru nursing programs. He leaves behind his wife Barbara, his sons of whom he was so proud Greg and wife Malia, his loved grand children Kent and Jalen, Rick and wife Christina and new born grandson Logan. He was a good husband, father and friend. We miss him so much and pray he is watching over us. A Memorial Service will be held at The New Mexico Veterans Memorial Park, 1100 Louisiana SE, on Sunday, August 26, 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m.
