Obituary for HERRERA

Gabriel "Gabe" Herrera Jr., age 84, and a resident of Albuquerque, went to be with the Lord on Wedenesday, August 21, 2007, following a brief battle with cancer. Gabe was a decorated US Army Veteran who was an Honorably discharged Veteran of WWII and retired from the United States Postal Service in 1980. Until recently, his greatest enjoyments included visiting local casinos with Margie, and in earlier years, he played an active role in Boy Scout Troop #281. As well, Gabe proudly served as usher within Queen of Heaven Parish and Senior Group and was also an active member of Chapter 4227 Knights of Columbus. Gabe was preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel and Juanita of Socorro; brothers, Herman, Ciriaco and Juan; sisters, Julianita Romero and Fefa Chavez. Gabe, our husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend is survived by his life partner of 60 years, his loving wife, Margie; one son, Gerald of California; two grandsons, Jared of Phoenix and Brandon of Albuquerque; two great granddaughters, with numerous nieces, nephews and friends throughout the area whose lives he touched and who loved and will miss him. Services will be held Queen of Heaven Parish, 5311 Phoenix NE, near San Mateo and Menaul. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, August 26, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 27, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. with U.S. Army Honors. Pallbearers will be Jared Herrera, Brandon Herrera, Lester Aragon, Raymond Romero, Eugene Romero and George Cline. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert "Bobby" Romero, Mark Cline and Brian Aragon. The family would like to thank Lester, Jennie Aragon, Lugy Clark, Stella Lujan, Michelle Lucero and the staff of Princeton Place Nursing Center and the caring services of Heritage Home Hospice. "Dad, you are gone but not forgotten". In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 10501 Montgomery NE Ste. 300.
