Obituary for SEERY

Emma Louise Bristol Seery died on August 22, 2007; she was ninety-eight years old. Emma was born to J.B. Bristol and Sadie Hull Bristol an April 7, 1909 in Nogales, AZ. The third of four children, she was preceded in death by all her siblings and parents. Emma attended public schools and graduated from Nogales High School. She worked for businesses in the Nogales area before attending college in California with an art major. Later she passed the civil service test as a typist/stenographer. She was hired by the Bureau of Indian Affairs (B.I.A.) in Window Rock, AZ, in May, 1937. Emma Lou met a young engineer who also worked for the B.I.A. - James D. Seery. The couple was married August 28, 1938 in Gallup, NM. She resigned her position in September to begin her life with Jim. The couple followed a career with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. Dam building projects took the couple to many locations around the world including: Vallecito Dam, CO; Davis Dam on the Colorado River, Arizona; Nimbus and Sly Park Dams in CA; Snowy Mountain Project, Cooma, New South Wales, Australia; Navajo Dam, NM; Curecanti Unit Project, CO; and the Tehachapi Mountain pumping plants in CA. While returning from Australia, the couple toured Europe, sightseeing throughout the continent. Jim retired in 1972 and the couple returned to Albuquerque, NM. Jim then became a consultant to the State of California and the Government of China. Emma Lou traveled with Jim to China and the Far East and enjoyed the camaraderie and scenery. Emma said, "I lived in a lot of places and had a wonderful life with Jim." Emma once made a hole-in-one on the 14th green at Canberra Golf Course playing with Jim and Lord and Lady Hutton, while living in Australia. Emma Lou had one son born in 1940, James Michael Seery, who died as an infant. Emma is survived by many nieces and nephews in New Mexico throughout the U.S. A short graveside gathering is scheduled for Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque, NM.
